Under the direction of and reporting to Engineering Management, develop and analyze new designs that meet product specifications while considering feasibility of operation, manufacturing, and application. Maintain existing products to meet current customer needs, agency or certification changes, manufacturing improvements, and cost saving initiatives.


  1. Analyze new and existing products in the areas of design, function, styling, and other engineering factors to standardize components and units by model, application, design, materials, dimensions, etc. to effect simplification of designs, interchangeable parts, reduced inventories and costs.
  2. Responsible for developing design concepts and associated technologies through the following key duties:
  3. Function as part of a product design team and liaison person between various functional groups: Sales, Production, Service, Corporate Communications, Customer Service, and Engineering departments.
  4. Collaborate with Electrical/Software engineers on product functions/interfaces
  5. Conduct design validation tests and document results.
  6. Take direction from supervisor that may require doing whatever it takes to advance the development of the project
  7. Be able to take projects from concept to completion with minimal supervision. 
  8. Comply with all quality and safety regulations, departmental, company policies, and procedures. 
    • Concept generation, selection and stakeholder validation
    • Modeling the mathematical relationships between key design factors and critical technical responses through theoretical and empirical methodology and analysis
    • Analytically predict potential failures, designing for reliability, robustness and manufacturing
    • Qualify the design performance, reliability, robustness and acceptance to regulatory standards through test plans and statistical analysis
    • Effectively document and report key learning for a wide range of technical and non-technical recipients


             Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar required

        5 years experience in a new product development engineering environment; experience in the food service equipment industry preferred

        Proficient with SolidWorks (or other 3D CAD software) and PDM

        Understanding of DFSS (DOE,QFD/CPM, DFMEA, robust design, mathematical modeling, reliability analysis,), FEA, CFD

        Understanding of Agency and Certification Standards such as UL, NSF, CE, TUV

        Strong knowledge of sheet metal design and fabrication

        Able to work with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint)

        Strong technical & analytical ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical product

        Ability to handle multiple activities to meet target dates 

        Excellent documentation skills and oral communication skills directed to technical and non-technical audiences
